Amber necklace. Probably
the first ever jewellery made by human being from amber was a necklace.
There are a lot of amber nuggets with small natural hole in them, so it
was not very dificcult to string them onto thread. Sinse people have
learned how drill the amber, the necklaces became more sopnisticated
and neat. However coarse, rustic necklaces made from rough amber are
still popular and desirable. There are few classic kinds of amber
necklases traditionally made in Baltic states:
Round bead amber necklace.
A most expensive and desirable kind of necklace. I requires a lot of
labor and skills to make a precise round shape, just selected rare
rough material is suitable for this kind of necklace. Waste of
expensive amber is huge, approximately 4:1, you need 150g of rugh
material yo make a 30g necklace. A lot of rond beads are sold t Arabic
countries to make payer beads.
Baroque necklace.
The necklace very similar to round, but has irregular shape of beads, much cheaper than round bead necklace, but still looks nice and decent. Sometimes sellers try to sell as a round necklace.
Olive shape necklase.
The beads have prolonged olive shape, this necklace was very popular in
vintage times. Novadays it is rare because require good qualty amber
nuggets to make.
Nugget necklace.
Natural shape amber nuggets are tumbled or hand polished, then drilled
and strung onto thread, aesthetic, organic and affordable necklace
available to by from most amber shops and stallholders.
The nugget necklace strung with knots between beads and very short also known as a baby teething necklace.
Amber choker.
Traditional classic amber choker is made from flat shape amber
material. Rectangle amber bars are hand polished and then strung on two
strings in order to hold the shape. Most labor consuming necklace,
often available in two or more colours.
Chip necklase.
Amber chips and small bits left after more expensive items are tumbled
in tumbling machine amd placed onto thread or elasic cord. The cheapest
kind of necklace. Sometimes sellers offer it as a teething necklace,
but I would not recommend because the chips have not smooth enough
shape for baby to feel comfortable.
